UAEM in Campus Politics by Matt Price
Gavin Baker is running for student Senate at the University of Florida. Senate is a big deal at the University of Florida — it controls more than $11 million in annual funding and represents the 3rd largest university in the U.S.
As part of his “mini-platform” relating to tech issues, Gavin plans to work for the adoption of the EAL for medical research, advocate for open access to university research and journals, promote open source software and open file formats — you get the drift.

To our knowledge, Gavin is the first student to make the EAL an electoral issue. We hope this will be an example for other students to follow, and wish him all the best in UFL’s upcoming elections.
